As Belgian composer Suntapes continues his journey through landscape-driven composition, he introduces “Shatyly,” the next single from his upcoming EP Air of Kyrgyzstan. Inspired by the vast, desolate mountain region of the same name, the track captures a feeling of openness, solitude, and quiet spiritual depth.
“Shatyly” unfolds as qualitative compositional ambient space music, tranquil, melodic, and gently melodramatic without ever becoming heavy. At its core lies an enjoyable, expressive theme recorded on a rare vintage keyboard, the Farfisa Soundmaker. Its distinctive electronic tone brings warmth and subtle nostalgia, giving the piece a slightly more defined melodic presence than some of Suntapes’ earlier, purely soundscape-driven works. The result is a track that feels grounded in melody while still floating in atmosphere.
Around this central motif, neoclassical synthesiser arrangements expand the harmonic landscape, supported by understated bass and delicate glockenspiel accents. These layers add light and texture, creating a sense of spaciousness that mirrors the mountain setting. There is a careful balance between electronic character and organic emotion, a hallmark of Suntapes’ evolving sound.
Like the other compositions within Air of Kyrgyzstan, “Shatyly” is paired with a meditative video filmed in the remote mountain area itself. The visual and sonic elements move together, inviting slow viewing and attentive listening. Rather than overwhelming the senses, the piece allows space for breath, reflection, and stillness.
With each new release, Suntapes continues refining his ability to translate place into sound. “Shatyly” stands as a serene yet emotionally resonant chapter in that exploration, expanding the sonic world of Air of Kyrgyzstan while staying true to his atmospheric, travel-inspired identity.
