From a young age, I was enchanted by the limitless possibilities of fantasy and science fiction—genres that allowed me to explore not just faraway worlds but also the depths of human emotion and thought. This fascination with the unknown became the cornerstone of my artistic journey. Though my academic background in Business Administration and Mathematics from Anadolu University and Dokuz Eylül University initially guided me toward more analytical paths, it was the world of filmmaking that truly captured my heart.
My formal education at the Istanbul Cinema Academy and later, my Master’s and Doctorate in Film and Television from Beykent University, provided me with the tools to transform my creative instincts into cinematic reality. I believe that the best movie is one that stands the test of time—something that can be watched over and over again, with each viewing revealing new layers, new insights. This idea of timelessness and depth is something I aim to achieve in all of my films.
As the most awarded filmmaker in Turkey, my films such as The Librarian (2022), Mirrorty (2017), and Resurrection under the Ocean (2021) have found recognition and acclaim in film festivals around the world. However, the true joy for me lies not just in the accolades, but in creating films that invite viewers to experience the same wonder and awe that cinema brings to me. Every frame, every scene is an opportunity for me to share the excitement and curiosity that drives me.
At the heart of my work is a dedication to storytelling that doesn’t merely entertain but also provokes thought. I strive to find solutions to real-world problems or offer new perspectives through the narratives I create. Cinema, for me, is not just a medium for telling stories—it’s a way to influence change, to spark conversations, and to challenge audiences to think beyond the surface. My intellectual curiosity, combined with my identity as a filmmaker, guides me as I seek ways to address the unresolved issues of our world through the lens of fantasy and science fiction.
