In relatively recent history, we have really begun to value the power of our mind. We know the impact it has on our experiences and our ability to create new ones for ourselves. Very few of us, however, do the work of narrowing down exactly what that is, or what it looks like. With that in mind then, what is an ‘abundance mindset’?
Bombarded as we are, with daily platitudes and advice from ’armchair’ life coaches, you could be forgiven for becoming somewhat inured to terms like “abundance mindset”. Daniel Mangena the best-selling author, radio host and international speaker says.
“It’s all a matter of mindset”
“Master your thoughts, master your life”
“It’s all just a case of mind over matter”
…say countless, 20-something, self-proclaimed “influencers” at you from your Instagram feed. As though, somehow, shaking fistfuls of dollar bills at you from the window of their (rented) Lambo, is somehow tantamount to meaningful advice.
It’s easy to become cynical these days, but nevertheless; we still know how important our mindset is. The truth of that remains, despite the prevalence of those who, with only a cursory understanding, seek to commodify it.
What is an “abundance” mindset?
In essence, it is a state of mind that equips you with the following:
- No limiting beliefs around money
- No concerns about having the resources to pursue dreams & aspirations
- Anxiety-free living
- Confidence that you will be supported in your goals
It’s common to see having an abundance mindset as being all about money. That’s not unfounded of course, money is a chief resource. But it’s more than that. The money is incidental, it’s the person you become that is what it’s all about.
Being abundantly minded simply means that you aren’t limiting what the universe can (and will) serve up for you. The reason why your dream life hasn’t come to you, is because of the limitations that you have been placing in the way. Not life/God/the universe.
We all have an abundant mindset…to one degree or another.
I created something a while back called The Money Game (don’t worry, this is not a sales pitch) which is all about helping you to identify, what I refer to as your “edge”. This is simply the outer limit of what you believe it is possible to show up for you.
Everyone has an “edge”. Whether it’s as small as finding a penny on the street, or as large as a million bucks showing up from an anonymous donor, so that you can build a training facility in Africa. There’s a boundary in your mind, within which you are so comfortable and confident, that you know it will show up for you.
If I said to you that you must leave the house and not come back until you’ve manifested a dollar: how would you feel?
Most people (the vast majority with access to this article anyway) would, I’m sure, feel confident that if they walked around enough; eventually they’d come across a stray dollar. Whether it fell out of someone’s pocket, or because you convinced someone to give it to you.
I would bet that, nowadays, the same would probably be true if I told you to stay in the house. You have at your disposal so much access and information. You can offer something for sale and have the buyer arrive in mere minutes.
The Money Game has lots of rules and stages, through which you uncover and then progressively push out your edge. It’s designed to encourage incremental change, that doesn’t overwhelm you or undermine your growth. The point is to build confidence in your subconscious. To prove to it that there is abundance out there and that it can come to you easily.
It’s important to also examine what isn’t an abundance mindset.
You are the channel for everything that you experience. All of it only has the meaning that you assign to it. What dictates that meaning is your mindset, because that will determine what kind of emotional energy you associate with it.
Therefore, having a limited mindset, or one of ‘scarcity’ or ‘lack’, will simply narrow what’s possible for you. It’s very easy to get caught in thinking this way. Simply looking at your bank balance can do this to you. You can become blinkered and mired in a sense that you’re on a shrinking iceberg.
But what’s in your bank account is just the tip of the iceberg. You have far more resources at your disposal than just the cash in your account. Your time, skills, knowledge… these are all resources at your disposal.
When was the last time you took an audit of your net worth?
I don’t mean: “when did you last check your bank balance?” I mean, when did you last add up all the assets you own, and come up with a figure that if (God forbid) you died tomorrow, your family would receive?
It’s more than you think. Dan continues.
Combine that with all the skills you have, the talents and the willingness to work; and there’s no limit to the wealth that you can generate for yourself. Once you open that door, you’ll start to see more opening for you as well. By simply showing your mind that there’s isn’t one way for you to leverage the life you want, it will start to see opportunities everywhere. Thanks to your reticular activating system: it’s designed to!
An abundance mindset is about more than just having lots of money. It also doesn’t follow that having lots of capital will necessarily give you an abundant mindset.
And that’s the beauty of it!
You can start cultivating an abundant mindset with what you have right now. By doing so, you’ll start to shift yourself and your reality. Give it a try. What have you got to lose?
