Meet Annissa Murad:
Two days ago Annissa Murad was an average teenager: singing songs to her followers on instagram, having fun with her brother on weekends and studying for her end of year exams. Fast forward to now she has just taken the floor at one of our city’s most prestigious events consisting of over 250,000 spectators. Slowly but surely London is starting to talk about her: “Who is she? Where does she go to school?” Is she London’s next star?
Various details of her background remain a mystery, and whilst we may not have all the information our readers are yearning to know, I was able to witness Annissa’s talent at the event hosted by “Positively Putney” whilst indulging in a delicious lunch at “The Urban Food Fest”…so londoners, here is what we do know:
As Annissa graced the town, she opened her set with debut single “Blue”, a song she released when she was only 14 years old that has quickly become a staple in her fanbase of over 177,000. The melodies are catchy and fun and I could even see the front row kids singing along to the bridge’s captivating tune. Next, she integrated my personal favourites: “Chill out” and “I’m not ur mother” two of the compelling songs from her debut EP which I was thrilled to hear!
However, my personal favourite was an unreleased song, which she says was inspired by the likes of Christina Rossetti (in particular her iconic “Goblin Market”) and a manipulative figure in her life. Whilst I cannot name the song as that would be a major spoiler, it had an impressive literary depth, reminiscent of Bob Dylan’s work, so we can surely be excited!
When I had a quick chance to chat to Annissa after her second set right before the boat race she said she had some important people to thank: “I really want to say thank you to Nicola and everyone at Positively Putney for hosting such an incredible event, their community is so vibrant, welcoming and warm. I also can’t wait for Mike’s next urban food fest. They made the day so worthwhile and Sami, my younger brother, loved the kebabs and Mojito Mocktails at the food stalls. Also thank you so much to Cheska from TheVillage_Putney for her and her kids’ support and Emily from LSBN for this wonderful opportunity!”
