Hamilton’s Lucky Honey have been turning heads since 2024, and it’s not hard to see why. The indie-rock outfit pulls from the gloss of 80s synth-pop and the punch of 90s alt-rock, packaging it into songs that feel both familiar and completely their own. It’s the kind of music that works just as well blasting through car speakers as it does echoing across a festival field.
Since dropping their debut single “One You Call,” the band has been on a steady climb. They’ve sold out hometown shows at Mills Hardware, played sets at Sound of Music Festival and NXNE, and performed live on 102.1 The Edge during Toronto’s Sugar Beach Sessions. This year alone, they’ve added Supercrawl and Burlington’s Canada Day celebrations to the list. For a band barely two years in, that’s serious ground covered.
Their previous single, “My Friend Is a Dancer”, hit over 27,000 streams, leaning into offbeat storytelling about imaginary friends and the strange comfort of believing in something unseen. It showed a more playful side of the band, one that wasn’t afraid to get weird while keeping the energy high.
Now they’re back with “Kill Your Sorrow,” and it might be their biggest swing yet. The track opens with driving guitars and layered synths before exploding into a chorus that feels designed for crowd catharsis. Lyrically, it’s about shedding emotional baggage and reclaiming joy even when everything feels heavy. There’s a release in it, the kind that makes you want to scream along, whether you’re alone in your room or shoulder-to-shoulder at a show.
Lucky Honey isn’t trying to reinvent the wheel. They’re just really good at making you feel something. With new music on the way and festival season heating up, they’re proof that sometimes all you need is a good hook and the guts to play it loud.
