Stepping into the shoes of Martin, the antagonist in the short film “FED,” has been a transformative and immersive journey that has pushed the boundaries of my craft as an actor. Under the direction of my dear friend and Director Subramanya Kalal, the process
of preparing for this role has been a meticulous exploration of Martin’s psyche, motivations, and complexities. From the initial script reading to in-depth discussions, every step has been a collaborative effort to breathe life into a character that resonates with authenticity.
The preparation for Martin’s character extended beyond the pages of the script, delving into extensive research to understand the psychological nuances that define him. Conversations with my Director provided invaluable insights into the director’s vision, allowing me to align my interpretation of Martin with the overarching narrative of “FED.” The collaboration fostered a shared understanding of the character’s emotional landscape, paving the way for a performance that goes beyond the surface and explores
the depths of Martin’s journey.
Physical transformation became a crucial aspect of preparing for Martin’s role. Our MUA Missy Andria played an integral part and did a fantastic job to give Martin a face. Martin was inspired by “Leatherface” from the renowned Horror film “The Texas Chainsaw
Massacre.” Dedicated training and skill acquisition became a part of the daily routine, ensuring that every movement and gesture authentically reflected the character’s nature. Portraying a cannibal was something that physically and mentally challenged me. I feasted on raw meat for a few days to acquire the sense of Martin’s “diet.” Restricted myself in my room for as long as I could without food or water. The attention to detail in the physical portrayal of Martin aimed to create a seamless integration of the
character into the visual language of the film, enhancing the overall cinematic experience.
The anticipation rises as “FED” gears up for its screening on the 25th of January at the prestigious “The Great Film Club” in Los Angeles. The prospect of presenting our collective effort to such a discerning audience adds an exhilarating layer to the entire
process. The realization that Martin’s story will unfold on the big screen, especially in a venue renowned for celebrating cinematic excellence, fuels a sense of responsibility to deliver a performance that transcends expectations.
The collaborative synergy with the dedicated film crew has been a source of inspiration throughout this endeavor. As the premiere date approaches, the excitement is accompanied by a profound sense of accomplishment for the entire team. The
preparation for Martin’s role in “FED” has not only been about the art of acting but has become a journey of self-discovery, pushing boundaries and exploring the depths of storytelling through the lens of this compelling character. I eagerly anticipate the
audience’s reaction at “The Great Film Club” in Los Angeles, hopeful that Martin’s journey resonates with viewers and leaves an indelible mark on the cinematic landscape.
