Gone were the days when we say content creation is tied to business growth, now it is easy to say content creation is the new gold and creators have tapped into this goldmine making a fortune for themselves and a name that opens opportunities for them. Like every other field that is lucrative, people tend to jump on the train with different motives with those without passion and drive jumping off after some bumps. What sets content creators aside is the uniqueness of their art and how they impact their viewers. The world is a global village and there are different social media platforms one can showcase their art. One of these platforms is the renowned TikTok where users are allowed to create and recreate short videos for entertainment. One content creator and TikTok user whose art can be define as exceptional and rare is Simon Webb better known on TikTok as FallenSpiritOfficial.
With almost 1.5 million followers in just over two years since joining TikTok, he has created a niche for himself with his unique content. What sets him aside is the authenticity of the characters he portrays in his videos which are originally designed by him. Greatness takes hardwork and dedication and this reflects on how much work he puts in creating these characters; he takes out time of at least 1hr 30mins to paint his face, arms and upper torso before creating his contents. Simon designs this look by himself drawing inspiration from different places being a huge movie and TV show fan. His designs are not just a general fictional thought but a collection of different art with meanings and stories linking to one another. Simon started by designing “Ogun”, the character with the vivid green mouth. After the success of that character, he decided it needed a sibling and then he created his brother “Oco”. He merely switched around some color details and then incorporated some of his own tattoos into the design. After a huge success with content created with these two designs, Simon decided to grow the family even more and then he introduced their father which he called “Ooni”.
Simon’s creative process is excellent and his contents can be classified as hilarious, classic, heartwarming and inspirational. Aside from his amazing TikTok content, he has also written 3 books, the first which he called “Brian The Bear Plays Hide and Seek” which has been self-published on Amazon while the other two books where he wrote about his original TikTok characters are in the works but almost ready for publishing. It easy to see how Simon puts in a lot of work to make his videos and how they link.
For most creators on the platform, TikTok is about jumping on trends but for Simon it is more that, he is literally owning it and creating something different, a brand that the world can connect to. When asked about how does TikTok make him feel when he creates contents, he says; “TikTok and content creation has opened me up as a person, it has helped me grow more confident and also connect with other amazing likeminded individuals like myself; My wife was my inspiration for joining and everything I do is for the love of art and a means to provide a better quality of life for her and our family”.
