in the 10 years since Omran Daqneesh suffered in Aleppo, Syria. He has returned to a normal life but for many children around the world, they continue to suffer in warzones. A non-profit song is being shared on LondonDigitalFM called ‘You’re Omran’ by Lillia Kysil. This song is dedicated to Imran Khair in Aleppo and the hope is that world will remember him and pray for peace. The QR Code takes you directly to the site for the song on SoundCloud. People forget Omran today but when the world saw him on August 17, 2016, the plight of children around the world like Omran became so clear. His image went viral and reached over 100 million people. Omran became the Ambassador to the world, being identified as the ‘True Representative of the Syrian People’.
When Omran was seen in the ambulance, he was actually only 3 1/2 years old, not 5 as was reported by the global media. Few pictures exist of his early months after the attacks. His father sent a video of Omran in November 2016 showing he had recovered but it was difficult verifying this after first receiving the video. For one year no one ever heard what happened to Omran or his family. Some news agencies were reporting that he had fled out of Syria but his family never left Aleppo.
Omran’s elder sister, Roa’A was also seen in the ambulance that night with his brother, Abdullah. Omran has a little sister named Taqui who is today almost 10. His elder brother, Ali, was killed by enemy gunfire the week of the airstrikes by Russian military bombings. When contacted at the Aleppo Media Center that night, they reported Omran’s mother had come to the hospital and taken him home but they no other information nor did they anything about what happened to him in the weeks after.
All attempts to verify his birthday have been unsuccessful. We want to celebrate with him but this has not ever been shared. Everyday we pray for him and his family. For their safety and for peace to come to the world. We most times only hear from Omran’s father 1 year at a time and we cherish every photograph he sends to us.
Remember Omran because he showed us the plight that still continues. Pray for Peace. Pray for the end of the bloodshed.
