MetodijaMihajlov, a Manhattan restaurant owner, told AFP that he is 50 years old and he hadn’t seen this much rain ever in his life. He said the rain was like tropical rain that falls in the forests. It seems like living in the jungle. He finds everything strange this year. The basement of his restaurant has been flooded to 3 inches in water.
This weather event has caused hundreds of flights cancelled at several airports including LaGuardia, JFK and Newark. A video has been releases showing an inundated terminal by rainwater.

State of Connecticut, a neighboring city, recorded one death. Thirteen people died in the New York City and 11 out of them were those could not escape from the basement. The police reported that victims of flood include people of two years to 86 years old.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a lawmaker, tweeted “Among the people MOST at risk during flash floods here are those living in off-the-books basement dwellings that don’t meet the safety codes necessary to save lives”. She added that most of at risk belong to working class, low-income families or they are immigrants.
A local official confirmed the death of three in the New York suburb of Westchester while death of four in Montgomery County outside Philadelphia in Pennsylvania. Thelda hurricane wave previously caused heavy destruction in the north after Louisiana over the weekend. It brought severe tornados and flooding in the region.
