It was just weeks before One Direction heartthrob, Liam Payne, fell to his death from a balcony in Argentina, but just weeks before the heartthrob died, he had written an earnest letter to his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, stating he would marry her within a year, she revealed on Wednesday.
A week after the 31-year-old singer’s death, Cassidy posted a heartfelt tribute on Instagram.
“A few weeks ago, we sat outside on a beautiful evening, manifesting our future together,” she wrote. “I keep your note close, though you told me not to look at it,” she added. “It said, ‘Me and Kate to marry within a year/engaged & together forever'”.
Cassidy posted a few personal photographs, which included one of the handwritten note from Liam. She continued as follows, “Liam, I know we’ll be together forever, but not in the way we’d planned. You’ll always be with me. I’ve gained a guardian angel. I will love you for the rest of my life and beyond, carrying our dreams and memories with me everywhere I go. Forever yours, Katelyn.”
Payne and Cassidy began dating in 2022. The US influencer had been with him during his time in South America, although she left the country weeks before the tragic accident that ended his life on October 16.
“The Love of My Life”
Cassidy began her emotional post on Instagram by saying, “I don’t even know where to begin. My heart is shattered in ways I can’t even describe.”
She then reflected on how he brought happiness and positivity into the lives of those around him: “I wish you could see the huge impact you have had on the world, even as it feels so dark right now. You brought so much happiness and so much positivity to every single person—millions of fans, your family, friends, and especially me. You are so incredibly loved.”
Struggling to accept his death, she continued: “You are—because I couldn’t say were—my best friend, the love of my life, and everyone you touched felt just as special as I did. Your energy was contagious, lighting up every room you walked into.”
Cassidy still expressed disbelief as she made light of the loss: “None of this feels real, and I can’t wrap my head around this new reality of not having you here. I’m struggling to figure out how to live in a world without you by my side. Together, we got to be kids again, always finding joy in the smallest things.”
Liam, you had the kindest soul and the most fun-loving spirit. It feels like I’ve lost the best part of myself. I don’t see how I’m ever going to be able to be there on a day when we usually are- like we both dreamed it. I can’t imagine a day without your laughter and love. You brought so much light into my life.,” Cassidy said in her tribute about Payne.

His father, Geoff Payne, remains in Buenos Aires, awaiting results of tests before the body is allowed to return to the UK. The investigators are scanning phone records, data, and computer security footage to establish the full circumstances of the event that led to the tragic end.
