The Canadian and British rap scenes have enjoyed a healthy relationship over the last few years. Blossoming particularly with the support of figures such as Drake, there is now a certain intangible understanding between both scenes reflected by numerous transatlantic collaborations.
Stacccs is the latest of a series of Toronto rappers to take direct inspiration from the UK drill scene. Rapping with flair and poise, Stacccs’ warnings and flexes of success are directly reminiscent of UK drill music at the moment.
This is compounded by the instrumental, which samples “Love Nwantiti”, a viral Tik Tok sound. Whatever your thoughts on it, there is no denying there has been a massive uptick in the popularity of sampling Tik Tok sounds in UK Drill. Stacccs thus appears to be paying homage in a sense, whilst also putting forward his own distinct Toronto style.
