William Jackman II, an emerging actor and digital figure, is drawing increasing notice as he steps into the lead role of the new musical True North. Jackman studied acting at Carnegie Mellon University, widely regarded as one of the most prestigious conservatory programs in the United States. His transition into the professional sphere has been marked by a series of collaborations with established producers in New York City.

Hunter Regian, known for producing Sunset Boulevard on Broadway, is leading the development of True North. Jackman has been cast as Charlie, a pivotal role that has already earned attention during the musical’s recent off-Broadway workshop. The show’s early critical reception has been enthusiastic.
“A playful and uplifting holiday musical with substance, True North is a moving story with deeply explored relationships and charming music,” wrote Lil Malinich, actor and producer of stage and screen.
The Orlando Sentinel called it “a movingly entertaining look at a specific family that somehow speaks for all of us.”
Derek McCracken of Columbia University described the score as “holiday pop rock with catchy songs that advanced the plot,” adding, “The title makes a promise and keeps it.”
While the creative merits of the show have guided its early success, many observers point to Jackman’s performance and his substantial social media reach as important factors in the project’s momentum. His audience on TikTok and Instagram has given the workshop a visibility that is unusual for a developing musical and has contributed to conversations about a possible West End transfer.
Jackman’s blend of classical training, contemporary influence, and the strong reception to his performance in True North has positioned him as a young actor gaining fast traction in the New York theatre community.
